Assignment B-The DOME

So now I am here already to proceed with the assignment B.Now I'm gonna blog all the things that me and my team called as the Abstract Academician have done for the DOME Project.

REAL WORLD CONSTRUCTION



Below is the requirement on order to construct the DOME

Ø A Geodesic Dome
Ø Teams of five people / team
Ø On HBP Premise
Ø Experiential, Holistic, Simulative Learning
Ø Design, Build, Assemble

The dome that each team is to produce MUST BE A GEODESIC DOME. It is really3 recommended that we first build a MODEL to help us make ourdecisions on size, materials, construction etc.


Ø Each team must submit a report illustrating all the above rules including the lifespan of the proposed dome and what the materials can be recycled into.
Ø Report (210mmX210mm) must be bound with a front and back covers.
Ø The front cover must carry the team name, the members and majors, motto, and a sketch of the proposed dome.
Ø Submission: 10:00am, 10 September, E48A.

SITES: As indicated in the proposal below (subjected to amendments).

Our site is situated at location no 15.

Criteria 1-zero cost
Ø Our dome material is a recyclable materials collected from around the area of USM and nearby.
Ø The material is such as
o Bamboo (main material)
o Rope (raffia)
Ø There are no cost charge for the materials.

Criteria 2-Packaged
Ø Our dome is foldable type
Ø When it is constructed, it can stand full stretch like 1metre in diameter and 1 metre in heights.
Ø However the dome at fold mode only likes a triangle of 0.77m x 1.00m x 1.00m.
Ø The packaging for the dome is using paper boxes accordingly to the size of the dome.

Criteria 3- Prefabricated

Ø The dome is prefabricated earlier into a few main pieces.
Ø The shape of the main pieces is like a triangle in the size of 0.77m x 1.00m x 1.00m
Ø It consist of 8 pieces

Criteria 4-Accommodate five (5)
Ø As stated before the dimension for our dome is 2.00metre in diameter and 1.00metre in heights.
Ø 5 of a team is a 1.70m heights, 2 is a 1.60m heights and 2 is a 1.50m heights.
Ø According to the heights and the body type of our team member, we believe our dome can accommodate all of our members with no problem.

Criteria 5-Carryable by three (3) people
Ø The dome in fold mode all together with the packaging is weight around 9kg
Ø 3 of our team member should have no problems in carrying the packaged dome from HBP to the allocated sites.

Criteria 6-Assembled in 30 minutes
Ø After the pre-fabricated process is done, we have set the assembly time to be met by 30 minutes.Alongside with practice and planning, the dome can be assembled in 30 minutes by 5 of our team members.

Criteria 7-Only by team members
Ø The dome only needs to be assembled by 5 of our team members only.
Ø There are no need for extra than 5 people.

Criteria 8-Show team identity
Ø Our dome is based on our motto, which is “Plan for the quest, prepare for the worst and hope for the best”.We have planned our material and the stage of the dome construction

Ø After meeting several problems such as toppled dome, we have added the dome with an extra anchorage.Lastly we hope the dome is at its best situation.

Criteria 9-Assembly: 10 Sept 2008

Criteria 10-11:30 am – 12:00noon

Criteria 11-Lifecysle: 12 month
Ø The lifecycle of the bamboo dome is estimated at 12 month period.
Ø The bamboo is the type of thick bamboo which contains moisture inside the texture.
Ø It is the moisture inside enabled the bamboo dome to withstand a 12 month lifecycle period.

Criteria 12-Recycleable
Ø The material of the dome is of course recyclable.
Ø The bamboo can be recycled into 1001 types of basics things.
Ø For example, we can list several of it:

FROM EVENT TO OVAL:-THE PRODUCTION OF A BUILT ENVIRONMENT

FOREWORD

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullah Hita’ala Wabarakatuh

First and foremost I would like to introduce myself as an “actor” to this Built Environment subject. My name is Abdul Muin Bin Hj. Yusoff of 3rd year Quantity Survey student. As one of many Quantity Survey students, it is compulsory for me to take this course as it is the core subject by the HBP.


This is my own understanding based on the one quoted by Mr. Wan Burhanuddin bin Wan Abidin a.k.a WanB.


(This course bring in the students to the Built Environment throughout its production as a entire; in particular who's concerned, what's the theory following the production, how the environment is produced, what laws are connected and what are the forms of the built environment on altered scales together with human settlement such as villages, towns and more specifically housing areas.)

Again to continue my perceptive, I would say that I must rather open my eyes beyond limitation, and sees everything at creative way of looking at the situation. It is called seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now, there are those, of course, who do not share my perceptions, it's true.


ASSIGNMENT A

Virtual Construction

I don’t know how to say this in proper way, but as for starter we’ve been introduced to get and built a free virtual sites where I can express my understandings captured by the Built Environment and Human Settlements lectures.
The work scope is to Design and build on my site the idea of PRODUCTION and I should explain it in detail the production of your construction.


Base on the Lecture 1 by Wan-B,


PRODUCTION
Essentially, from what I comprehend, built environment is a product which is a result of a 6 element combo.
However, in any of those two cases, 6 basic elements are applied in creating built environment:-

1) Intention = an intention is an idea or plan of what you are going to do. Good or bad be put in thought and the decision is yours.




2) Act = When you act, you do something for a particular purpose. Act can be performed solo or incoraorated with other mambers. As long as the info on the INTENTION has been celarly been pass down to each of them. So that the intended product follow the main idea of INTENTION.

Act verbaly, non-verbal, physically or non -physical.

3) Product = A product is something that is produced and sold in large quantities, often as a result of a manufacturing process. Considered as the result following the INTENTION + ACT + RULES + SITE by ACTOR = PRODUCT. If you say that someone or something is a product of a situation or process, you mean that the situation or process has had a significant effect in making them what they are.



4) Actor = us (ACTOR) and the "authority" (also actor, normally unseen although it may be obvious) which legitimises what we determine.
From what I recognize, I can tell the certain role played if the actor is us. It depends on what knowledge and expertise we are.
But not quite get it the role of the “authority”.


5) Rules = Rules are instructions that tell you what you are allowed to do and what you are not allowed to do. A rule is a statement telling people what they should do in order to achieve success or a benefit of some kind.

6) Site = A site is a piece of ground that is used for a particular purpose or where a particular thing happens.

ACTUALLY WanB have already pictured to us very cleary about the model of PRODUCTION. The Model from WanB is like

this one and I found it easier to understand when I look at this picture.

this one. You see....??? Now u understand what I'm talking about. Thanks WanB for
redirect the way of our thinking towards the PRODUCTION and all of the above.

Lecture 2
Site (Scale of the Built Environment)

emmmm...I read the article about "Quarter-Million Doctor-InducedDeaths Annually: Iatrogenocide?"


The one thing I can say is if the doctor have mistakenly cut one or two organs of the patiens.....he can always sticth it back announce the death of the patience. and,,,shhhhh....don't tell anybody. Nobody will know.

But if we as the Doctor of the world environment....if we have mistakenly cut, dig, construct, redirect, replace the nature with an error....the whole world will know it. Just like the Highland Tower which collapesed decades ago. It is said to be the error of the Construction Team.

Construction Team? Hey....why is this terms sound so near and fimiliar to me eh...are we going to repeat the same errors of thoose unfortunate team. Hopefully not at my hands. Thats whywe in the construction industry refuse to use the term "try an error". If we do.....RUNTUH la...

and I also read about the "The New World Order (NWO)"


Oooowh...how dare they intent to regimented ourway of life...our way of thinking...we are not machines...we are man....man should not conquer or rule anyone. We should help one another. Here My comment is we will no surrender without a fight you SOB. In the name of democracy let us all unite.

NOW...back to the lecture 2


My understanding iseverything have their own scales to work with. All we know is limited to the human scalesonly. Try to ask the worker bees, workers ants, and workers termites. They known as the greatest builder in the field of hives, tunnels and hills. If they were the samescale as us....The Burj Dubai is just like a baby food to them. Lucky us they are small....


This is the picture from WanB's famous site and I kinda of borrowing it. The highlighted tells me about a production that is to be applied to the whole world. Kind a big operation doesn't it. It mind "Regimentation". Careful with this one. We might not escape ourself from the Final World War. hahaha


Object - the scale that we use to imagine, construct,and produce the product that are small.





Interior - well...we used it too. To measure the product bigger.




Building - Still the scale within our proffession.




Premise - Developer and client's scale.


Urban-errr...do we have an urban and regional planner here to teel me how tu use this scale?

Region - at govermental level whose do theplanning for certain region.






Global - used by Dr Sheikh Muzapphar / NASA





From what I understand



Spatial scale gives a "shorthand" figure for converse relative lengths, areas, distances and sizes. As a QUANTITY SURVEY wannabe I only use this scale.This is called as scale ruler. It scalemay be 1:10, 1:15, 1:25, 1;30, 1;50, 1;75, 1;100 1;150 and 1;300. The scale to be use is depend on the architectural or engineering drawings provided.


It is important to realize that these divisions are more or less arbitrary, and where, on this table, mega- is assigned global scope, it may only apply continentally or even regionally in other contexts. The interpretations of meso- and macro- must then be adjusted accordingly.



How about Microscopic scale?



The units used to describe objects on a microscopic length scale are most commonly the Micrometer (µm) - one millionth of 1 metre, and smaller units.


U can see the germs and the baby germ.


What about Macroscopic?


U can see it with your naked eyes.

I think we are between here only. Our scale is important in order to develop our environmental construction.



While Telescopic maybe to refer to outer Global scale.


But we won't beusing this scale. It just for observation of the outer world phenomenon. Actually it was invented in the 10th and 11th centuries, during the Islamic Golden Age, Ibnu Sahal and Ibn al-Haytam made advances in the physical and mathematical understanding of optics that were essential to the development of spectacle quality lenses and the telescope.

6689 Had Graduated



Recently, the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has been holding its 38th annual convocation from Aug 13- 17. The blessed ceremony witnessed a sum of 5914 student graduated their Bachelor Degree studies and a number of 775 Master Degree while 2 professors has been awarded the Emeritus Professor.
I would like to express my deepest congratulation and wishing them all the best on their respectful achievement. This is the post-production of an advancement of beings from bad to good, from good to better and from better to the best.

The mass ceremony is launched from 13 August 2008 with the rehearsal and convocation briefing. All grads who are attending the Convocation Ceremony are required to be present during the rehearsal session in accordance with the above sche dule.

While the rehearsal is done for the session 1 up to5 on that day, it is continued on 15 August for the next three session that is 6-8.

DSNLY? I could spell it, but couldn't pronounce it!




















For the moment of the rehearsal, peoples wearing a big smile on their faces having a good time at the USM Convex site especially the kids when there were a lot of exposable enjoyment and fun here. Take a look at this picture and maybe it could fill you up for the moment of joy there.

Its 14th August 2008, Thursday. The weather is at its best today. The sun is so generous when it shine with the golden glimmer all day long. Thanks God. USM Convocation Ceremony is honoured with the presence of the D.Y.M.M. Tuanku Chancellor, His Highness the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, presiding the first session of the ceremony. It is a great fortunate for those who have their graduation on this blessed day.It was the day of the Honorary Degrees, Emeritus Professors, Doctors and Masters graduates to have their hands held within the grasp of His Highness as the highest symbolic of granting them with salute for their success in their study. Hopefully they will serve well in their further fulfilment especially for own nation, Malaysia. It is because we were proud to be the graduates of Universiti Sains Malaysia. And to Malaysia we serve.
